06/12/2019 - First International Workshop on Compressible Combustion

On May 09, 2019, the "First International Workshop on Compressible Combustion" was held in Aachen, Germany, organized by Prof. Francesca di Mare (Chair of Thermal Turbomachinery and Flight Propulsion, RUB) and Dr. Jacqueline Chen (Sandia National Laboratories, USA).
Numerous experts from academia and industry from around the world met to lay the foundation for a common collaboration platform for scientific and technological exchange and to gather their efforts to understand the physics behind combustion at very high pressure, high compressibility and strong non-ideality of combustion media.
The schedule of the day (https://ccw19aachen.blogs.ruhr-uni-bochum.de/schedule) included 4 interesting presentations by recognized experts in the field: Dr. Marco Zedda (Rolls-Royce), Dr. Jenny Larfeldt (Siemens Industrial Turbomachinery), Dr. Alexei Poludnenko (Texas A & M University) + Jacqueline Chen (Sandia National Laboratories) and Prof. Joseph Oefelein (Georgia Institute of Technology.
Following the success of the workshop, a second event will be organized in two years and an ERCOFTAC Special Interest Group will be established to facilitate the above scientific exchange.

27.05.2019 - 2nd Symposium on Turbomachinery Test Facilities (STTF2)

From 20 to 21 May 2019, the "2nd Symposium on Turbomachinery Test Facilities" (STTF2) took place at the Chair of Thermal Turbomachines and Aero Engines (TTF). A total of 44 participants from Germany, Switzerland and Canada met at the RUB to discuss test facilities, test setups and measurement techniques in the field of turbomachinery in a pleasant atmosphere. Current issues were presented in 17 lectures and discussed both directly and during the joint dinner. The team of the chair would like to take this opportunity to thank all participants of the symposium for their constructive contributions as well as the lively discussions and is looking forward to a continuation in 2021 due to the positive feedback.

10/09/2018 - NICFD 2018

From 04 - 05 October 2018, the Chair of Thermal Turbomachines and Aero Engines hosted the "2nd International Seminar on Non-Ideal Compressible-Fluid Dynamics for Propulsion & Power (NICFD 2018)". Together with the Universities Politecnico di Milano and Delft University of Technology, preparations were made for this seminar. For two days, representatives from universities and research centers reported on research results in the fields of propulsion (diesel injection / rocket engines) and power (sCO2 cycles) on modeling and effects when using real gases and real gas mixtures. The program was rounded off by four "keynotes" from the University of the Federal Armed Forces Munich, the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology, Stanford University and the École Centrale de Lyon. We would like to take this opportunity to pass on our praise and thanks to all the hard-working helpers who contributed to the smooth running of the event. Due to the positive feedback to the event and the steadily growing community, the next NICFD 2020 will take place at the TU Delft. AG Turbo - Working Group Meetings

On February 26 and 27, 2018, the Chair of Thermal Turbo Machines and Aero Engines hosted the AG Turbo working group meetings on compression and expansion at Ruhr University Bochum. For two days, representatives of the participating universities and industrial partners reported in detail to the 130 guests on the latest findings of their currently ongoing research projects within the AG Turbo network. We would like to take this opportunity to pass on our praise and thanks to all the hard-working helpers who contributed to the smooth running of the event.

1st Symposium on Turbomachinery Test Facilities

From 11 to 12 May 2017, the "1st Symposium on Turbomachinery Test Facilities" (STTF1) took place for the first time at the Chair of Thermal Turbomachinery (TTM). A total of 50 participants from Germany, Austria and Switzerland met at the RUB to exchange information in a pleasant atmosphere about test facilities, test setups and measurement technology in the field of turbomachinery. Current issues were presented in 17 lectures and discussed both directly and during the joint dinner.
The team of the chair would like to take this opportunity to thank all participants of the symposium for their constructive contributions as well as the lively discussions and is looking forward to a continuation in 2019 due to the positive feedback.

Workshop "Unsteady Aerodynamics and Aeroelasticity in Turbomachinery".

On 05.03.2014, the first workshop "Transient Aerodynamics and Aeroelasticity in Turbomachinery" took place at the Chair of Thermal Turbomachinery (TTM).
We would like to thank all participants for their constructive contributions as well as the lively discussions.
