The centrifugal compressors from GHH (Gutehoffnungshütte in Oberhausen, today MAN Diesel & Turbo SE) used in the test field can be operated open or in a cooled circuit. It is possible to use impellers up to 400 mm Ø and diffusers of various designs up to 630 mm Ø. The operating point can be set by means of throttle elements in the discharge line and a standardized flow measuring section. The drive of each coupled compressor is provided by a thyristor-controlled DC motor with a power Pelof 375 kW and stepless speed adjustment up to N max = 4,000 rpm.The drive power is transmitted to the centrifugal compressors via a planetary gearbox from Krupp-Stoeckicht (make BHS) and a curved-tooth and shift coupling. The speed Nof the RV 2-1 centrifugal compressor is 16,000 to 30,000 rpm. At present, a 3D-twisted impeller with a diameter of 250 mm is installed, followed by a plate diffuser. The RV 2-2 centrifugal compressor is used within the student laboratory for map measurement. It is operated at N = 7,000 to 14,000 rpm, contains a prismatic impeller (Da= 315 mm) and a plate diffuser. Both inlet and outlet as well as the plate diffuser are equipped with temperature and pressure measuring points.
