IBN-Halle, Grube 8 Axial Turbine II

The large-scale low-speed turbine test rig Axial Turbine II has a modular disc design, which means that individual non-rotating segments - such as stator rows and inflow, outflow or housing segments - can be exchanged with comparatively little effort. The test rig is operated with air at ambient level in an open circuit. The throughput is generated by means of a radial blower, which is coupled to a 150 kW three-phase motor with speed control and can provide mass flows of up to 13 kg/s. The centrifugal blower is stubbornly mounted on the test bench. The centrifugal blower is positioned downstream of the test section, thus avoiding additionally introduced disturbances of the inflow and allowing a clearly defined inflow condition to be realized.     For the most recent investigations on secondary flows, rotor-stator interaction and transition behavior, extensive conversions and modifications were carried out. These include first of all the realization of rotatable housing elements, which allow automated probe traversals and thus the metrological recording of two-dimensional flow fields. Furthermore, the entire flow path of the test section, consisting of inlet flow, hub sections, guide wheel, rotating bar grid and the stator with T106RUB blading actually to be investigated, was redesigned and replaced by appropriate components. In this way, a suitable test rig setup was realized on which the described investigations could be carried out with high temporal and spatial resolution under variation of diverse geometric boundary conditions.
